“He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love,” I John 4:8.  This verse has been the cornerstone of Pastor Person’s lifelong ministry. Her heart has always reached out to the world, allowing God to demonstrate His love through her. Pastor Person was saved and baptized at the age of eight and  was ordained an elder on July 4, 1992. At that time she became the pastor of Way of Holiness United Church of God, a church she and her mother, Elder Lillian R. Kearns, had co-founded in 1989. She used the hurricane damage to the church and the landlord’s decision to close the building in 1997 as an opportunity to escape the job of pastoring. After working for several years helping to found and/or build up other ministries, on September 11, 2005, Pastor Person finally gave up running from her call to be a leader of a flock of God’s people .

             She, with her husband’s full support, began the work of planting a new church. The first service was held in their home on October 18 with one other person present, Elder Hannah B. Petteway. The first service at The Light Church was held March , 2006.

             Pastor Person is an alumnus of North Carolina Central University (Class of 1975, Bachelor of Arts), East Carolina University (Master of Arts in Education), and North Carolina College of Theology (Doctor of Biblical Studies).

             Pastor Person and Daddy were married August 11, 1973, and are the parents of three sons, James Delbert Person, Jamel David Person, and Eugene R. Spicer, Jr. (heart son).

             They are grateful that they can now serve the Lord in full time ministry, having retired from their secular jobs as teacher of high school English and Automotive Technician.
